Meet the Team
Ian
Ian is a Health Professions Council Registered Paramedic with over 10 years’ frontline accident and emergency experience working as a motorcycle, rapid response unit and ambulance paramedic and medical technician. A member of a select unit of paramedics trained to work in high-density crowd environments (MRT), Ian has taught overseas for the United Nations in Kosovo, and has taught trainee paramedic teams in Denmark and Croatia.
An ex-University of Hertfordshire senior lecturer, Ian holds a BSc (Hons) in Paramedic Sciences and has consolidated his considerable teaching experience by assisting Ambulance Service Training Officers in the training of student paramedics, for a large urban ambulance service (a joint project with the University of Hertfordshire).
Ian believes in refreshing and furthering his qualifications. Ian already holds certification in various courses, ranging from pre-hospital trauma life support, tactical medical support, paediatric and geriatric advanced life support (provider & instructor), advanced assessment and treatment of trauma (provider & instructor) and he holds the City & Guilds Preparing to Teach in the Life Long Learning Sector (PTLLLS) award.
Nick
Paramedic: Clinical Team Leader
Nick is a Health Professions Council Registered Paramedic with over 4 years’ front line accident and emergency experience. He is one of the ambulance service’s youngest clinical team leaders, yet his knowledge, skills and enthusiasm are unparalleled. A keen ‘outdoorsman’, Nick has an FDSc in Paramedic Sciences and is a member of a select unit of paramedics who are public-order trained to work in hostile civil disorder environments.
Simon
Paramedic
Simon has a BSc (Hons) in Paramedic Science from the University of Hertfordshire and is a Health Professions Council Registered Paramedic with over 5 years’ front line accident and emergency experience. Currently training to become a member of the Hazardous Areas Response Team (HART), he has taught trauma and medical courses for the Norwegian and Danish ambulance services as well as assisting in the training of student paramedics for a large urban ambulance service.
Completing an impressively broad range of paramedical activities, Simon is also a member of the 144 Parachute Medical Regiment and is a certified Combat Medical Technician 1 (CMT1).
Andy
Paramedic: Clinical Team Leader
Andy has 13 years experience in the ambulance service and currently works as a Clinical Team Leader and Duty Officer. He is also a CBRN advisor and team leader on a specialist major incident team.
He has been a serving member of the RNLI and flight paramedic for London’s Air Ambulance service and is currently on secondment, assisting and developing the ambulance service medical cover for the London Olympics.
Outside of the ambulance service, Andy has travelled extensively and has worked in the Middle East and Indian Subcontinent and has also been an expedition medic in Borneo.
Andy was a member of the British Army for ten years, serving as the medic for “small specialist and highly mobile teams on operations.”
